At Horten, you are met by more than a suit. We dare to have an edge and exploit our differences. The recipe is courage, openness and foresight based on a strong and ambitious environment with respect for people and with a positive atmosphere. We do not hide behind the law and complicated terms.  We communicate clearly, ensuring that everybody understands what we are saying.

Flexibility

We are often very busy, and for periods we expect our lawyers to work longer hours and be available when our clients need advice. At the same time, we bear in mind that flexibility goes both ways, and we know that people who are happy and thrive deliver the best performance. Generally, you can work from home one day a week, provided it aligns with the department's planning.

It is important that you unwind and take holiday during the year. Apart from being covered by the Danish Holiday Act, you are also entitled to five days off each year earned proportionally from the date of employment.

We believe that it is important to offer our employees a flexible framework that allows for a well-functioning leisure and family life alongside work. That is why we go the extra mile to create the best conditions for combining private life and an exciting career. Based on a specific assessment, you may reduce your working hours for a specific period and take parental leave without impairing your career opportunities.

Parental leave

We offer a comprehensive parental leave programme that allows expectant mothers, fathers and co-parents with over one year of seniority at Horten to take up to 24 weeks of leave with full pay. This gives you, as an employee, the flexibility to plan your parental leave in the way that suits you best.

To support you before and after the parental leave, we have an external coach available who offers guidance during pregnancy and after the child's birth. The focus is on ensuring that mothers, fathers and co-parents can address their individual considerations regarding their new role as a parent.

Additionally, Horten collaborates with Inspired Beyond Babies, a professional parental leave network that gives you the opportunity to connect with a network, gain new knowledge and find inspiration during your leave.

Communities

Our informal culture that embraces diversity, our straightforward and respectful communication and our emphasis on making work enjoyable are unique in the industry. This approach supports job satisfaction as well as professional and personal development.

The fact that Horten is a dynamic and innovative company is very much thanks to our employees. Good ideas are appreciated no matter where they come from within the organisation, and we act quickly if we see a need for change. Therefore, you will find opportunities to influence our business and your workplace.
The tone of our workplace is unique at Horten and something we cherish. Our daily work is characterised by collaboration and mutual support across all employee groups, and at every level our interactions are marked by respect and informality. Horten organises many social events and we value having a good time together - both in work-related contexts and privately.

These events are held both in the teams, e.g. yearly team excursions and trips, in the staff groups, e.g. different social events each year, and across teams where - in addition to the weekly Friday afternoon get-together, summer and Christmas parties - we also have monthly events and activities arranged by the social events committee. Our lawyers hold a yearly conference where they discuss different professional, business-orientated and/or strategic issues, and our secretaries and paralegals attend a conference each year where focus is on personal and professional development.

Recently, we attended the Horten Festival in Himmerland, where all Horten employees gathered for a day filled with exciting and enjoyable activities aimed at bringing smiles to our faces and getting to know each other better. In true festival style, there was, of course, street food and music later in the evening. Get a glimpse of our festival in the video below:

Health insurance

All employees are automatically enrolled or have the option to enrol in PFA Health Insurance when joining Horten.

Company gifts

We give gifts to employees on special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and admissions to the bar.

Diversity and gender

In 2023, the gender distribution among all employees at Horten was 62 % women and 38 % men, while the distribution among our lawyers was 51 % women and 49 % men. The equal distribution of women and men among legal professionals is optimal in our view, as we aim for gender diversity in the industry.

Our 2024 target of having two women on the board/senior management by 2025 (equivalent to 28 %) was met in spring 2024, when two women were elected to the board. In addition to the ambition of more women on our board, we would like to achieve 33 % women in 2026 in our other management roles (other management).

We will continue the same initiatives in 2024 that we worked on in 2023. At the end of 2023, women made up 14 % of the senior management and 29 % of the remaining management positions.

The initiatives to support the gender distribution in Horten’s management layers are e.g. to incorporate knowledge about diversity and inclusion through managerial training in unconscious bias and introduce special career reviews to spread out the possibilities of a managerial role at Horten. Management efforts are supported by an employee survey questionnaire where commitment and inclusion are key topics.

We encourage everyone regardless of gender, age, disability and ethnic background to apply for vacant positions at Horten.
