Horten’s AI team consists of experts in a wide range of legal fields, all of whom have significant experience advising on the legal aspects of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in sector-regulated areas, including healthcare, finance, energy and the public sector.

We advise clients on the development, procurement, implementation and use of AI solutions, including in relation to ensuring compliance and managing the risks associated with AI. Our team works closely with specialists from other teams, enabling us to provide broad, multidisciplinary advice that is tailored to the client and the specific case.

Concrete and practical advice

We assist our clients with various AI legal tasks and aim to create solutions that are easy to use and effectively tackle the relevant legal challenges both commercially and technically. In relation to artificial intelligence, we assist with:

  • AI compliance and risk management: Assessing and advising on compliance with regulatory requirements, including in relation to sector-specific regulation, and managing the legal risks of implementing AI solutions.
  • Data protection and AI: Advising on compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other relevant data protection regulation when using AI.
  • Contract drafting: Drafting and reviewing customer and supplier contracts, including ensuring that the various roles in the AI supply chain comply with all legal requirements and that responsibilities are regulated according to applicable regulation.
  • Intellectual property law: Advising on intellectual property issues related to the development and use of AI, including protection against infringement of third-party rights.
  • Relevant compliance documents: Preparing relevant compliance documents, including under the AI Regulation, the GDPR, IT and cybersecurity regulation and, where applicable, administrative law.
  • Ethical guidelines: Developing ethical guidelines for the use of AI.


In addition, we assist clients with:

  • Drafting and establishing AI governance structures and policies.
  • Education and training on the AI Regulation and regulatory compliance.
