At Horten, there are several pathways to the role as an assistant attorney or junior associate. We employ both assistant attorneys with a Master of Laws (LL.M.) and junior associates with an MSc in Business Administration and Commercial Law, and we recruit both internally and externally. We offer the same development opportunities regardless of your starting point.

Assistant attorney

On your journey from assistant attorney to attorney, you will learn the practical aspects of the legal profession. In other words, you will become a professionally well-founded and business-orientated attorney.

In addition to keeping a constant focus on the development of your professional skills, we also focus on developing your personal competences to support your daily work and make you familiar with the commercial aspects of the advisory role.

Your training and development are continuously tailored to your specific skills, needs and ambitions. We believe this provides the best form of competence development and well-being. Read more about our talent development programme, GOambition.

Challenging tasks and interesting cases

A significant part of your learning is integrated into your daily work, where the complexity of your tasks increases proportionally with your development, and you are gradually given more independent responsibility. Client contact and meetings are part of your daily work through which you will train and develop client relations even as an assistant attorney.

We have many interesting cases. Therefore, you will often be part of interdisciplinary teams and experience great variety in your tasks. In combination with the possibility of rotation, which allows you to switch departments once during your time as an assistant attorney, this ensures that you build a solid and broad foundation for your future career.

Professional and personal mentoring

As an assistant attorney, you will be assigned to a partner, who will be your immediate superior and responsible for your development. In your daily work, you can expect full attention from experienced attorneys and partners who prioritise your assistant attorney training and take the time to give you ongoing constructive feedback on the tasks you perform. As new employee you will also be paired with a buddy who will help you get off to a good start, and after approximately three to six months of employment, you will choose a mentor with whom you can discuss well-being, career aspirations and many other topics.

Your training

Horten Academy complements and supports the formal training of assistant attorneys, and there is a plan outlining which competency-building courses you will undertake during your time as an assistant attorney. Additional training abroad or postings at home are also an option. Of course, Horten pays for your participation in the lawyer training programme.

The practical litigation test

Horten litigates many cases, and we focus on ensuring that our assistant attorneys gain courtroom experience in a current and interesting case. Additionally, through Horten Academy, we offer a series of courses that closely cover litigation practices.

Junior associate

As an MSc in Business Administration and Commercial Law, you can be employed as a junior associate and after three years advance to associate. In addition to your legal expertise, you will have the opportunity to contribute with the commercial perspective, business understanding, and financial insight acquired through your training.

Your employment conditions, assignments and career options rank equally with those applicable to our assistant attorneys. However, under the current rules of the Danish Bar and Law Society, you may not conduct litigation or participate in the society's lawyer training programme. We offer our junior associates the opportunity to participate in the training programme for commercial lawyers in the legal industry.

We are continuously looking for assistant attorneys and junior associates, so keep an eye on our open positions here. We primarily hire assistant attorneys and junior associates to start in September and February.
