How do we level the playing field and achieve gender parity in the legal profession on management level? IBA World Women Lawyers’ Conference themed "Women in Leadership" being held in Copenhagen Mid-September will address these questions and expand the participants' international network. Lise Lotte Hjerrild, Partner at Horten, is the Chair of the IBA Women Lawyers' Committee hosting the event. Horten is a key organizer and main sponsor. The conference takes place at the Odd Fellow Palace and the number of participants is expected to be +200.
The conference aims to empower women lawyers and law firm leaders through the opportunity to engage, network, share knowledge, and develop business opportunities, and it is an exciting and unique opportunity for all participants to expand their professional networks. All genders and perspectives are welcomed at the event while it remains dedicated to the cause of empowering women lawyers.
Prominent key note speakers
Essential issues will be discussed in the company of leading speakers and experts from a vast variety of industries and jurisdictions and participants from all over the world; the conference's list of key note speakers features Helle Thorning-Schmidt (first female Danish Prime Minister), Mia Wagner (lawyer & co-founder of Nordic Female Founders), Deborah Enix-Ross (chair of the American Bar Association), Maria-Pia Hope (MP of Sweden's largest law firm & Swedish CEO of the year) Almudena Arpòn De Mendívil (in-coming chair of IBA), and Anita Krohn Traaseth (chair of the Norwegian Innovation Fund and board member of the European Innovation Council) and many more.
The conference also has an extensive social program that includes a canal cruise in the heart of Copenhagen, various lunches, dinners and receptions in order to facilitate second-to-none networking opportunities and advertise Copenhagen as an international epicenter worthy of hosting large international IBA events – especially of importance, as the IBA organizes a vast variety of conferences with the most prominent being its annual conference generally attracting 5-7,000 international participants. Lise Lotte Hjerrild, the Danish Law Society, the Association of Danish Law Firms and Wonderful Copenhagen will be lobbying for Copenhagen to be the host city in 2026.
Chair of the International Bar Association Women Lawyers' Committee
In January 2022, Lise Lotte Hjerrild, Partner at Horten, became the Chair of the International Bar Association (IBA)'s Women Lawyers' Committee (WLC) which aspires to empower its 3,000 international members to engage, network and share knowledge, to level the playing field in the legal profession, and to inspire leaders in the legal profession to achieve gender parity. As the Chair, Lise Lotte has jointly with her Committee Officers from all parts of the world developed awareness tools to help achieve these goals, while facilitating an efficient global network for women lawyers to connect and develop business.
“As the World Women Lawyers’ Conference has been organized by IBA's Women Lawyers' Committee headed by my team and I and supported by a sponsoring host committee consisting of other major Danish law firms, Horten remains instrumental in promoting the agenda of women in leadership in the legal profession and in promoting Copenhagen as a modern, forward-thinking capital and conference city. This also exemplifies how Horten collaborates with fellow law firms and other key players in business, both locally and internationally, to inspire change – at Horten, we believe that inspiring change in the way our clients face the future not only requires exploration of the important issues of today's society but also calls for our legal advisors to play an active part in shaping a better tomorrow", says Lise Lotte Hjerrild.
From Horten, you will furthermore be able to meet Birgitte Frølund, Birgitte Toxværd, Christian Gregersen, Lars Lüneborg, Marie Løvbjerg and Maria Schmiegelow at the World Women Lawyers' Conference.
