As part of the Energy Agreement of 29 June 2018, all parties in the Danish parliament agreed to construct three new offshore wind farms. These farms are going to produce 2,400 MW for Denmark.
The parties behind the Energy Agreement have now decided that the first of the three offshore wind farms is to be situated in the North Sea outside Nissum Fjord. The offshore wind farm must supply minimum 800 MW of electricity to approx. 800,000 Danish households.
Denmarks's largest offshore wind farm put out to tender in 2019
The offshore wind farm - called Thor - will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm so far.
It will be put out to tender during 2019 and be connected to the electricity supply grid in the period 2024-2027. The Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate states that the offshore wind farm is expected to create 8,200 jobs during the construction phase.
The Minister of Energy, Utilities and Climate, Lars Christian Lilleholt, says: “Today, we are taking a giant step towards climate neutrality. The future offshore wind farm will be the largest farm so far, and it will make major contributions to local growth and the green change-over”.
