With effect from 6 January 2017, Burmeister & Wain Energy A/S (BWE) was acquired by Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S (BWSC), which, despite the common name, has had different owners since the 90'ies.

The acquisition includes 80 out of 135 BWE employees and trademark rights and technical documentation concerning BWE's boiler design.

Horten advised BWSC on the transaction.

Burmeister & Wain Energy A/S

BWE designs and manufacturers boilers for national and global thermal power stations. BWE was founded in 1843, when the manufacturing consisted of steam engines, steam boilers and central heating systems, etc. Since 1852, BWE has supplied steam boilers to power stations making the company the world's oldest boiler manufacturer.

Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S

BWSC was founded as part of the Burmeister & Wain group, but it became an independent company later on.  Today, BWSC operates from its headquarters north of Copenhagen and via a number of sub-suppliers. The company employs more than 600 people globally providing tailored solutions to power stations all over the world.
