On Friday June 29, the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority approved the merger of eight municipally owned water companies (Albertslund, Brøndby, Dragør, Herlev, Hvidovre, Copenhagen, Rødovre and Vallensbæk) into one water group.
Horten advises the water group and has assisted in preparing the eight water companies and the common services company for the merger. Horten has also assisted the parties in connection with the application to the Competition and Consumer Authority. This work has now resulted in approval of the merger. The merger, which is the first of its nature in Denmark, has been approved according to a simplified procedure, cf. section 12 c (7) of the Competition Act, as the merger is considered unproblematic.
The approval of the merger implies that there is now a green light from the regulatory authorities to establish the new water group as of 1 July 2012.
The purpose of the water group is to ensure clean water of a high quality to consumers also in the future. This is best achieved by acting together as the companies are able to benefit from each other's competencies and optimise the use of waterworks, wells and pipes.
