Gaming and Gambling

Online and land-based provision of games, online casino, bets and games subject to a restricted licence

our experience and expertise

Horten has Denmark's largest and most experienced team of attorneys specialised in gaming legislation and the team is recognised as Denmark's leading gaming law team both nationally and internationally. The team consists of a large number of attorneys with expertise within the different areas of provision of games in Denmark.

Due to our in-depth knowledge of the regulation of the Danish online gaming market and the different market players, we have great understanding of the regulatory, technical and operational conditions of relevance and importance to our Danish and foreign clients.

Horten therefore has wide expertise within all areas of Danish gaming legislation and many years' experience advising Danish and foreign clients on issues relating to Danish gaming legislation.

We have provided advice on the process up until the liberalisation of the Danish gaming market on 1 January 2012. Our advice has concerned issues relating to national and EU law, financial rules, tax rules, marketing aspects and general commercial conditions in Denmark.

We also have comprehensive experience advising on applications for a licence to provide online games in Denmark, including online casino, bets and games subject to a restricted licence.

Nina Henningsen of Horten Law Firm has recently been involved in lobbying work relating to the Danish government's gambling regulations. Peers consider her to be a rising star in Denmark, and she represents a number of significant clients. "She is a very good lawyer and I was very impressed by her performance," said one interviewee.

On a daily basis, we advise our clients on the requirements in licences to provide online games, rules concerning websites, personal data law, payment services, player terms ("Rules and Terms"), bonus systems, marketing campaigns, sponsor agreements and general issues relating to gaming legislation. In addition, we provide advice on issues relating to corporate law, tax law and EU law, and we also advise on IT law.

Horten is approved by the Danish Gambling Authority to review and certify the mandatory reports about the first year's provision of gambling, and we have wide experience in this work. We have participated in the working groups set up by the authorities in connection with the drafting of the guidelines.

Horten has a substantial network of the leading gaming lawyers across the world. In our advice we combine our understanding of the products and services provided with our knowledge of other jurisdictions to the benefit of our clients.
