On 6 December, Horten hosted a meeting of the Danish Energy Association. The meeting was attended by more than 50 lawyers and attorneys from the energy sector, public authorities and law firms.
The subject of the meeting was ”the future of gas” – and three experts presented their views on three of the most important gas issues of today: Shale gas, biogas and gas contracts in a greatly changed gas world.
The issues discussed were, among others, whether shale gas is the future answer to the need for energy and reduction of CO2 emissions; whether this type of gas can be explored, produced and regulated in the same way as traditional gas.
And also whether biogas – perhaps together with shale gas – can replace the natural gas which is slowly becoming exhausted. And whether gas can satisfy the need for transition which is necessary in the transport area.
And finally – how do the natural gas contracts match the major changes which have and will take place in the natural gas market?
The speakers were:
- Lene Hjelm Poulsen, Senior Geophysicist, Nordsøfonden: "Shale gas – the technical challenges".
- Hans Duus Jørgensen, Director of Development, Naturgas Fyn: "Biogas – for transport – options and barriers".
- Søren Hornbæk Svendsen, Attorney, Partner, Horten: "Shale gas and biogas – are they challenging legislation and is there a need for different/additional regulation? Gas contracts in a greatly changed gas world".
